It has been a few months since we started assisting in three high schools in Stara Zagora.
So far, we have done so much with the teenagers there! First, we got to know them, what they like doing, what they are good at. It has been a challenge because of the language barrier. Some of them speak a bit English (they all learn it as a foreign language), also the special teacher helps a lot with translation. We learn new Bulgarian words every day.
Then, we did various small projects / tasks with them, e.g. creating a table with the months and seasons (teaching the student how to tell the date and the time); making a map of Bulgaria with all the major cities and towns (this helped us with orientation in the country, too!); planting flowers and small plants in pots to look after in the classroom; creating a model of a waterfall from paper and natural materials, etc.
We also did a lot of Maths, English as a foreign language, Biology, Geography, etc. activities.
It has been fun, educational and the interaction with the young people itself is so fulfilling!
