What is better than the summer school holiday? A summer holiday spent outsidoors in the garden, of course!
So, starting from June, my fellow volunteers, some special teachers and me made a cozy place in the backyard of our school to spend time outside with our students with special needs. We advertised this opportunity and about 15 kids aged 6-11 were enrolled to take part. We prepared what games, toys, materials and stationery we already have. We made a weekly program with different activities and each week had a theme. So we went to the shops to buy more resources to use for the different themes. After all of this was prepared, we were ready to start in the beginning of July.
We had luck with the weather. There were only two rainy days which we spent inside. On all the other days we were in the garden, playing and doing activities with the kids. Every Wednesday, we would go to a new place – we visited the zoo, the Ayazmo park, an outdoors gym, Zagorka lake, etc. Once we even had puppet theater actors as our guests who performed in front of us.
We did some gardening with the kids. They are very good helpers when it comes to watering and weeding. We did some exercise, dancing to music, playing board games, a lot of drawing and crafting…
I really enjoyed being part of this and I would be happy to contribute the next summer when all the fun starts again!
