My name is Can and I volunteer in a project for European solidarity corps in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria. I go to school to work every day. It is called “Maksim Gorki” and it is a language school.
My day starts at 7 am when I get up, get dressed and have a coffee with a small breakfast. Then I head to my school. It is only on 10-minutes walking distance from home. I meet with the teacher Sonya. She is the special educational needs teacher there. We start classes at 8 am. The kids are age 7-18.
Today the first lesson was maths with a 9-year old boy. He is very curious and friendly but struggles at school. I help him by making the Multiplication table together with her. We practice it a lot doing different games. I will be a lot of fun and work until she learns all the multiplications!
The second and third lessons with two boys from grade 6. Together with Sonya we did some science sessions about planets and the Solar system. I read about this topic in advance to prepare. I think the students learnt quite a lot and they would be able to pass their upcoming science test.
After the third class, we have a break. It is the time when I go to get my second coffee for the day, to relax a bit and chat with some of the other teachers.
The next lesson we studied English language together with a 7th-grader. I am glad I can help here and I feel very useful.
After that, we did some arts and crafts with two other students. I like drawing and creating stuff from paper and natural materials. The students like it too.
We finished the classes at about 1pm. I went straight at home. I make my own lunch and relax a bit. After that, I did my homework for the Bulgarian language class which I will have tomorrow.
